Robinsons Trooper Fear of the Dark

I have been so impressed with the Iron Maiden beers brewed in collaboration with Robinsons and their chocolate stout, Fear of the Dead, is no exception.

Now that's what a stout should look like!  It pours a dark brown with a robust, thick and tight tan head.  The aroma is quite light but I picked up notes of malt, treacle and chocolate.

There's nothing light about the flavour; it has a lovely taste of chocolate, treacle, malt and a hint of roasted nuts.  It has a full body and medium carbonation that gives it a lovely smooth mouthfeel.

I love stout and I love chocolate so this one is a winner for me.  It's not a heavy stout so it's very pleasant to drink and the chocolate is delicious.  Ale Be Seeing You again!

Robinsons Trooper Hallowed

Just look at the rich mahogany colour of this Iron Maiden beer brewed by Robinsons Brewery.  It has a tight, robust cream coloured head and it gets full marks for appearance as this beautiful red/brown body is what I like to see in a beer.

It has a delicious malty aroma with a hint of roasted nuts, treacle toffee and tangy Belgian hops.  It tastes delicious too; there's a big hit of tangy hops at first followed by huge sweet and malty notes and it has a lovely dry. fruity finish.  I couldn't particularly identify plum and banana but it's definitely fruity.  It has a full body and it's quite fizzy but the carbonation isn't harsh,

It's a lovely Belgian with a British slant.  The flavour is rich and the fruity plum finish is really unusual.  I loved it and Ale Be Seeing You again!

Co-op (Robinsons) Triple Hop

Oh what a beautiful colour!  I was expecting something considerably paler but this molten amber, deep golden colour is right up my street.  The small, loose and cream coloured head lets the side down a bit as it disappears disappointingly quickly.

The aroma of hops, toffee and sweet malts is mouthwatering and I was very excited to take my first sip.  It has a lovely malty taste with a dry and bitter finish but the mouthfeel is a bit weird. The beer itself is quite thin bodied but it's very harshly carbonated.  It's not unpleasant, it just doesn't seem to match the rich flavour.

It's not bad at all for £1.60 for a 330ml bottle from the Co-op and I'd probably have another one just to see if I was being a bit too critical.  So Ale possibly Be Seeing You again!

Robinsons Trooper

Inspired by Iron Maiden, Trooper is a deep golden ale that looks like molten toffee with a fabulous thick, tight creamy head.  It smells deliciously hoppy and malty and I couldn't wait to have a sip.

It has quite an unusual mix of flavours leaving an extremely pleasant taste explosion on the tongue: tangy, sweet, metallic and slightly citrus, but they all work so very well together.  It has a nice sweet toffee and biscuit flavour with only a slight hint of citrus which makes it very refreshing.  It's relatively softly carbonated so feels quite smooth, helped along by the thick milky head; an impressive head that doesn't lace, it sticks to the glass.

I really liked it, it's what I would call a 'proper beer' and one Ale definitely Be Seeing Again!

Robinsons Old Tom

Old Tom has won both The World's Best Ale and Champion Beer of Britain and I absolutely love the old fashioned, almost medicinal, shaped bottle.  I actually came across it when we bought it for my Uncle Tom's birthday - one for him and one for me, of course!

They say that good things come in small packages so let's see what's hiding within the bottle.  Old Tom is a mouthwatering dark ale ark like Guinness but with more of a ruby tinge.  It definitely gives Guinness a run for its money in the thick robust head stakes - the head holds its form and leaves tremendous lacing that needs a scrubbing brush to get it off the glass.  The medicinal theme continues into the aroma which is sweet and spicy and reminds me of Coca Cola.

The oldies are certainly the goodies, with a delicious taste of dark treacle toffee and a lip smacking sweet aftertaste this is a Taste experience with a capital 'T'.  It's a shame it only comes in a 330ml bottle but then again at a whopping 8.5% it's not to be drunk lightly.

Simply divine and Ale definitely Be Seeing You Again!
